Paul Yates Selected Poems Wins Major Design Awards

Paul Yates Selected Poems has won one of the Irish Design Awards in the Printed Book Design Category.

The judges comments were:

“Interesting conceptual approach that considers the poet’s personality and behaviours as part of the work. For example, the use of the tab is something novel for this type of work.
A beautiful and compelling solution that invites the reader to pore over the artist’s work, and engaging more meaningfully with his poetry. The solution is thoughtful, and feels like an authentic reflection of the artist – whose hand is very much visible throughout the book.“

Created by Slater Design www.slaterdesign.com, their approach was clear:

“Key to our design approach was restraint, allowing the artist’s work shine rather than distract from it. The size and proportion of the book were chosen to best represent the poetry.”

Paul Yates’s Patron, Lord Glentoran said:

“Slater Design have been outstanding in producing a beautifully rendered volume with inspired layouts and daring use of colours, papers and textures. Exquisitely cut and toned thumb indexes effortlessly divide the work into seven key sections. The deft setting and spacing of the poems on the page, high-quality binding and slipcase, set this book apart. A true pleasure to handle and read from. Content, form and function in perfect harmony. Slater Design far exceeded our ambitions for this project, I am proud to be associated with it.

As well as the IDI Award, Selected Poems has also received a Bronze in the Art Directors Club of Europe Awards.
